Name: Lingostan

Website: www.Lingostan.com

Overall Rank: 4,8 stars out of 5

What Is Lingostan?

Lingostan is a wonderful language learning platform where you can have 1-on-1 lessons for more than 10 different languages. Spanish, French, Chinese, English, etc. All biggest languages in the world are covered. In addition, their platform is rapidly growing so I believe that they will add also more languages in the future.

Benefits of Lingostan

There are several reasons why I recommend using Lingostan.

1.1-on-1 Lessons Are the Probably Fastest Way to Learn a New Language

If you have read my blog, you have probably often read that speaking your target language is one of the most effective ways to make progress. You study speaking, listening and expand your vocabulary rapidly. It takes your mental resources because you actively need to think and process in your brain but it’s a fast way to learn.

Practicing with a language partner in a language exchange is also effective but you’ll learn even faster when you have a professional teacher. He/she dedicates the time to you and makes his best that you could learn. In addition, you don’t need to spend time with your native language like you normally do in a language exchange.

Which language do you want to learn? Spanish, French, Portuguese, German or something else?

2.You Get Free $10 + $10 = $20 Gift Right Away When You Register

At the moment Lingostan is giving a free $10 gift for all new members. I guess it’s a campaign and won’t be there forever. In addition, all readers of my blog LanguagesAreEasy.com get another $10 bonus. You just need to leave a comment below that you want that additional $10 and mention on Lingostan while booking your free lesson that you come from my website.

Leave a comment below this article, book a lesson on Lingostan and get free $20 in total!

Let me know if you have any questions about this bonus.

3.All Students Have 3 Free Trial Lessons

On other sites, you almost always need to pay for trial lessons. Even on Italki which has a long time been one of my language communities you need to pay for trial lessons. In that sense, Lingostan is superior compared to Italki and that’s not the only reason.

4.Lingostan Takes Only 10% Fee of Teacher’s Salary on Platform (Compared to 15% on Italki)

Maintaining a platform takes money. You need to buy a domain host, recruit qualified professional teachers, build a website, do marketing, etc. Some freelancing sites take 20% or even 30% of freelancers’ work. Lingostan takes only 10% which is an extremely small fee in my opinion. To be honest, I don’t know any other platform that takes so little fee.

That brings benefits for teachers and students. As a teacher, you can get paid more and as a student, you don’t need to pay so much for the lesson because there are not big fees. Their lesson prices are, for example, much cheaper than on another famous language learning platform called Verbling. I’m not saying that Verbling would be too expensive or bad but I’m just pointing out that the prices on Lingostan platform are really affordable.

5.All Teachers Have a Video on Their Profile

A video introduction is mandatory for all teachers who work on Lingostan. This is a great thing for students because it helps you to decide more easily which one could be the right teacher for you. In addition, you immediately get a glimpse of the communication of teacher.

How to Use Lingostan?

1.Sign up

First, you need to sign up. That takes probably less than 10 seconds. Go to Lingostan homepage and click “sign up” on the top of the page. You just give them your email and password and you are ready to get started.

2.Find a Teacher

On top of the page, they have a button, “Find a teacher” where you will find all their available teachers. Then you can easily filter the search with the following criteria:

  • Teacher type: Professional or Tutor
  • Languages spoken. You can filter teachers based on the languages that they speak, e.g. English
  • From Country. Choose your teacher’s home country
  • Gender: Female or Male
  • Language Taught: Choose the language that you want to learn
  • Rates: Choose the price that you are ready to pay for a lesson. $0-5, $5-10, $10-20 or +$20

Lingostan teachers

The most important thing, in my opinion, is just to choose the right language. Other filters are just extra and you can play with them as much as you want.

When you scroll teachers’ profiles you will see their education and work experience. In the other words, you can choose a teacher who has already a long experience of teaching languages if you want.

3.Book a Lesson

When you have found the right teacher you can immediately book your first lesson on Lingostan. It’s extremely easy. In the screenshot below you can see an example. I have opened the teacher profile of Zak. On the right-hand side you have a button, “Book a lesson”.

You can book a lesson on the right-hand side.

You can either book a FREE 15-minute trial lesson or your first real language lesson. Your first real lesson will also be free because you get $10 + $10 bonus as my reader.

You can choose the duration of your lesson: 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Personally, I prefer 60-minute lessons because then there is more than to go through the subject. But 30-minute lessons work also great if you don’t have enough time for a longer lesson.

4.Learn and enjoy!

lingostan review

You can have a 1-on-1 lesson by using Skype.

Lingostan will send a reminder to your email before the lesson. Then just start the lesson with your teacher and enjoy. Most common way to communicate with a teacher is through Skype video call but I noticed that they have also other options available.

I have always used Skype when having language lessons online and I think it’s easy-to-use. That’s why I recommend it to you as well. Let me know if you have any questions about this.

My Experience on Lingostan – First Italian Lesson of My Life!

I have never studied Italian before but I think it’s a beautiful language and I thought it would be nice to learn some basics. I decided to take an Italian lesson on Lingostan to see how their platform works and learn some basics of Italian.

During the first Italian lesson, I learned

  • How to greet in Italian
  • Most common phrases
  • Interesting and useful details about Italian culture
  • And more.

Not bad for a single 60-minute lesson that was free! I guess that you can learn more in a single 1-on-1 lesson that during 5 classroom lessons. After the lesson, I left a short feedback to my teacher Fabiola (see the picture below).

Lingostan Community & Forum

Lingostan is a language learning platform but also a community of language students from all around the world. They have a forum where you can connect with other people and talk about learning new languages.

Lingostan Language Learning Forum

As you can probably see in the picture above, Lingostan forum has also nicely divided discussions about different languages under specific discussions, for example:

  • English Language Forum
  • Spanish Language Forum
  • Chinese Language Forum
  • Arabic Language Forum
  • And so on

The discussion on the forum is also becoming more and more active as the community is growing and more people are finding Lingostan website. Let’s wrap up the pros and cons of Lingostan.

Pros & Cons of Lingostan:

Pros:

  • Professional native teachers
  • Affordable prices
  • 3 free trial lessons
  • $10 bonus for new members (+ extra $10 for my blog readers!) => free $20 as a welcome gift
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use platform
  • Platform takes only small fees from lessons

Cons:

  • Not as big as PreplyItalki, or Verbling. But Lingostan is rapidly growing so I believe it will catch up. You don’t usually need 100 teachers because 1 good teacher is enough when you find it.

Conclusion – Is Lingostan Worth It?

I can highly recommend Lingostan for anyone who wants to learn languages. At the moment they are providing lots of bonuses for new members so I highly recommend that you take advantage of those offers. Who knows how long those offers will be around?

You get 3 free trial lessons and free $10 when you join. Then you get an extra $10 when you leave a comment below and mention that you came to Lingostan through my site when you are booking the first lesson. It’s also important that you leave some feedback to the teacher after the lesson. It can be just a few sentences and takes just 5 seconds. Feedback always helps teachers to teach you and other students even better. It also gives valuable information for new language students.

Even without all those bonuses, Lingostan is great but they make it even better. 1-on-1 lessons are an extremely effective way to learn any language. In addition, Lingostan provides them for an affordable price so anyone can have them.

It’s great to see that one could be able to have a free trial language lesson on Lingostan. In as much as I have not been able to have any language lessons anywhere on the internet. I think this is simply for me considering the benefits you listed above of which having a personal language teacher is inclusive.

Yes, you don’t only get 3 free trial lessons but also a $20 bonus that you can freely use for the lessons. Are you interested in claiming that bonus and free trial lessons? If I remember right, you were interested in learning German, right?

You’re right for its German that I’m keen to learn, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t give learning Spanish or any other language a shot in the future. But just like I said, I’m planning to start soon once 2018 arrives.

@Henrywrites You haven’t tried out any of the language platforms Roope have brought to our door step with one click away from registration. I have actually started using Germanpod101 and it’s really cool.

Yes of course @Roope I’m having a great time with the learning platform, it’s been very helpful and all thanks to your creative mind for bringing such Intel to people who are eager to make use of it. I’m truly grateful to you for this.

            @Martinsx

It’s all about creating time to do that and coupled with the poor networking condition of where I’m staying for the Christmas celebration has derailed me from starting out, but for sure, I’m check Germanpod101 and see how I take it from there.

  3. Martinsx

Wow, this really looks great @Roope. I was impressed by what Italki offered but what comes with Lingostan is way off the charts compared to what is obtainable on Italki. The features of 3 free trials speaks for itself as being better than other language learning platforms.

Also the package of $10 gift is really a great enticer for people to make use of Lingostan. This is really wonderful @Roope, I’m left speechless.

Any reasonable individual wouldn’t pass on such offer because they are definitely worth to be taken with both hands. From my experiences in life, something that good takes time to come often, so therefore it’s best to make use of any opportunity one sees the time it comes because you can’t be sure how long it’s going to last.

I’m absolutely going to try out Lingostan because from where I stand, I have got nothing to lose by making use of it.

Of course, I’m going to come back with my experience with using the platform to you, because you are the boss of us all here. None of us would be enjoying all these perks if not for your sole effort in being helpful to people. I appreciate the very moment I became a part to this our community.

          2. Roope Kiuttu Post author

Hahaha, “boss of all of us” 😀 I’m very glad to hear that you’ve enjoyed. I probably need to put in more content in 2018 to make this even bigger.

          3. Martinsx

Haha, I know you are going to laugh about that statement “boss of all of us”, a friend of mine used that line on me when I taught him few things about freelancing and I couldn’t help myself laughing over it.

I have great belief in you that this 2018, you are going to bring in more content reviews from us. By simply looking at your work output in 2017, only the possibility of moving forward is all I see.
Compliments of the season and welcome to 2018 my friend.

I have never heard of this program but I think this is a great program. Before paying one can use a trial lesson and you leave if you do not like this program. I think this comes as an advantage to the learner. I don’t like how some programs ask you pay upfront.

If you do not like the program and do not want to continue, your money will be lost. However, lingostan is not like those programs. I also liked the bonus feature, I will love to try this.

Yeah, Lingostan is superior to most other programs in many ways. I would like to hear your experiences of lessons on Lingostan after you have tried it.

Very interesting! I’ve been trying to master German Language for almost a year now. I am a nurse and I have to pass B2 exam in order for me to work as a fully recognize nurse in Germany. It is very expensive for me to learn a new language. I hope this will help me get my ticket to Germany. Thanks.

Let me know afterwards what did you like about Lingostan and GermanPod101. You’ll for sure reach B2 level and beyond 🙂
