Today I am going to explain How to Find a Spanish Tutor Online. Having native speaker as your tutor, you can progress much faster rather than practice yourself. You will catch new words, sentences, and phrases that will help to improve your Spanish skills. When you find a tutor online, you don’t need to use time and money for moving from one place to another. In addition, you can find high-quality Spanish tutors for surprisingly cheap prices (starting from $2/hour).

You can also take advantage of bonuses that I provide in this article.

1.Baselang – Unlimited Spanish Lessons for $129/Month

Baselang review

Baselang Homepage

If you want to learn Spanish fast, Baselang is my #1 recommendation. They provide unlimited 1-on-1 lessons for Spanish for their affordable monthly fee.

All of their teachers are qualified professionals and native speakers. Most of them are from Venezuela. That also explains why they can provide a cheap pricing. You can take as many lessons as you want and don’t pay anything more.

In addition, they provide a 7-day trial for only $1. If you aren’t satisfied with their service during the first 35 days, they offer you a full refund AND $20 for “wasting your time”.

In my own experience their Spanish teachers are encouraging, friendly and really listen to the needs of each student. You can progress at your own pace or follow their curriculum.

2.Italki (Get a $10 Bonus)

This is my #1 recommendation to find Spanish tutors. With a quick search, I found 385 Spanish tutors in Italki in 5 seconds. Here is a screenshot of tutors that came in first in the search.

Spanish Tutors in Italki

Karina Cordones provides Spanish lessons fro $5/hour. She has already completed 52 tutoring lessons with a rating of 4,9 out of 5. Then Hugo Ortegano gives tutoring lessons for $5,90/hour. He has already given 496 lessons and his rating in Italki is impressive 5 out of 5.

Italki is one the biggest language learning communities in the world. It’s a place where I learned to speak better Spanish with a native Spanish speaker. The great thing when finding Spanish tutors is that many of them are living in a cheap country where a cost of living is lower. For example, Hugo and Karina live in Venezuela which is many times cheaper than European countries or U.S.

In Italki you can also get a $10 bonus when you register through my link. In addition to finding to tutors, you can also connect with other language learners in Italki for free.

3.Preply (Get -30% Discount)

How to Find a Spanish Tutor Online

Updated homepage of Preply.

Preply is a platform where you can find tutors for almost any language. More than 89,000 students have already found a tutor in Preply and the number is growing every day.

This video explains in one minute how Preply works and how you can easily find a Spanish tutor.
You can also find tutors who are living nearby so you can meet them in a real life. That’s very interesting feature especially if you are living in a big city. You can find more than 1,000 Spanish tutors in Preply. Then you can filter a tutor by the following factors:

  • Price per hour
  • Location: Online or Local
  • Country of Birth
  • Certificates
  • Age of Student
  • Level of Student
  • Gender

Here you can also find certified Spanish teachers who have a long education about teaching Spanish for students. Then you can also find tutors who are specialized teaching children.

Many tutors have many years of experience of teaching Spanish. You can find professional teachers for less than $15/hour which wouldn’t be possible in many rich countries like in Finland or Austria where I have spent the most of my life.

Today you can get a 30% discount on your first purchase when you join through my link.

4.Verbling

verbling review

Verbling believes that you will learn a new language by speaking it. I agree.

Verbling is one of the biggest language tutoring service on the Internet. One of my friends is working there as a German teacher and she has greatly enjoyed using it. Her students have learned a lot and lessons have been enjoyable for students.

On Verbling they have conversational curriculum which means that they put more focus on speaking than reading. Based on my experience this kind of method is much more effective for learning new languages rather than “old-school” classroom method.

Of course, they personalize lessons to tailor your needs. So, if you prefer written exercises more, they’ll provide them for you.

5.LingQ

More than one million people worldwide are using LingQ to improve their language skills. It is one of the best language learning tools that I have ever seen. I am for sure going to use it for the next language that I am going to master.

In LingQ language community you can have a language exchange with other people like in Italki but you can also buy tutor lessons from native speakers (see the image below).

How to Find a Spanish Tutor Online

A Spanish Tutor in LingQ

You can go through lessons that language tutors have created in LingQ or you can have a lesson with them. If you want to save money, you can also book 4 on 1 group discussion which costs only $5/hour.

LingQ service is also in general quite cheap because it costs only $75/year which includes lots of premium features to help you to learn Spanish or any other target language.

6.Fiverr

Fiverr is a huge marketplace of online freelancers. You can find there any kind of service. You can also find Spanish teachers and tutors in Fiverr with a quick search. I think that there isn’t such service that you couldn’t find in Fiverr. Their prices start from $5/service. That’s the reason its name is FIVErr.

7.Nulengua

Unlike other websites above, Nulengua is dedicated only for Spanish tutoring. It is a simple platform for connecting Spanish tutors and students. They don’t have hundreds of tutors but they have enough that you can find the one that you like.

How to Find a Spanish Tutor Online

Nulengua Spanish Tutors

Nulengua seems to be a good way to finding professional tutors. They offer the first lesson for free. After that, the lesson will cost at least $10/50 minutes. The cost depends on how many tokens a teacher has. 1 toke = $1. For example, a lesson with Michelle Candido (see in the picture above) costs 12 tokens which equal to $12.

Not very expensive but note very cheap either.

How to Have a Lesson with a Your Spanish Tutor?

The process of arranging lessons is very simple. Preply explains it in the following way:

How to Find a Spanish Tutor Online

1.Select a Tutor. 2.Send a Request 3.Schedule Your First Lesson

Usually, you will use Skype or Google Hangouts when arranging tutoring lessons. I have never used Google Hangouts myself so Skype works very well.

The process of having tutoring lessons is very easy. Maybe you are a bit excited before the first lesson but I think that it’s very nice to practice a language with a native speaker especially if you find a good tutor. And if you are using those platforms that I mentioned above, you will for sure find a great tutor for you.

If you have any questions on finding Spanish tutor, don’t hesitate to leave them below. I will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi Roope, great resources! I didn’t know about Nulengua or Preply. You can also find language tutors for many languages at Langademy. Right now, most of the tutors are Spanish so it can be a good place to find a Spanish tutor.

    Very good to know!

I already knew about fiverr but this website is mostly a melting put of all sorts of services. I am glad that this review covered more specific language related websites. I will now be able to turn myself towards Italki for spanish tutoring.

    Thanks a lot!

      Hi Marc!

You are right that in Fiverr there are many kind of services. I think it’s not the best one of these platforms for finding a Spanish tutor but it’s one reasonable option. I would look for tutors in Italki because my experience with their services has been magnificent. Nothing bad to say about their platform and community.

Hi there! I live in southern california where there is a huge Latina population and opportunities to speak Spanish. There are many times when I wished I could speak the language better. It never occurred to me that I could find someone to tutor me online. Are most of the lessons done via Skype? Thanks for this post!

      Hi Jackie,

as I explained in the end of the article, most lessons are done via Skype. With all of the lessons that I have taken online, we have used Skype. It’s amazing how easy it is nowadays connect with people all around the world. The Internet has enabled me to have friends from so many different countries.

You can choose if you want to take lessons online or locally in your city. Both options have their own positive sides.

These are great resources, I had visited your site earlier this month and saw that you had recommended Duolingo. I have been using that app ever since and it is really useful and has helped me learn a lot of german words.
This is another post with some useful information that will help me improve my language. Thanks.

      Hello Shrey,

i am glad that you have liked Duolingo. It’s probably the most popular language learning app in the world. One reason is that Duolingo is 100% free and the other reason is that it’s just great. 😉 Recently I have also found another very good language learning app called LingQ. I think it’s even better than Duolingo even though it’s not 100% free. But they are also a free version if you want to try out.

Spanish is one of my favorite languages and I have always been trying to learn it using various ways, I also took some online lessons but still I would say that I don’t know 1% Spanish.

I have never thought of hiring a tutor because it is not a requirement for me, just a hobby to learn different languages. However, when I read your post, I realized that it is definitely a good idea because having a tutor works best and the rates are really low.

Your no.1 recommendation Italki is something I am also finding the best place for hiring Spanish tutors, thank for this informative post!

      Hello Hari,

having a tutor is nowadays very cheap and easy. If you have many lessons with the same tutor, you will most likely become a good friend with him/her. Most of the time tutors are very flexible and you will learn something that you want.

Read a few reviews so you will for sure choose the best tutor. There are hundreds or even thousands of tutors available so somebody will fit for you.

Thanks Roope! This is some article for us to really have a tutor that will help us talk from the lessons we have learned like Pimsleur. Even though I have Pimsleur SPanish Lessons, because I don’t have no one to talk. What I learned I just forget much faster. But with this way I can find someone and speak to them with what I have learned. Another Kudos to your work!

Don’t worry about forgetting words when studying a new language because it’s completely natural. Experts say that you need to study a new word 40 times on average to master it. Some words take less repetition and some words take more and it’s the same work for all people. Practice makes progress 🙂

When you are learning a language, you should always learn from the natives. If you are learning from the locals or the people who are using the language as the second language, it is very likely that you end up becoming a stilted speaker.

This is a great resourceful article for people who want to learn Spanish. At this moment, I do not have any plans to study Spanish, however, I might enroll for Spanish class in the future because I take interest in Spanish language.

I started learning French with a local French language teacher. Well, he was a good teacher, however, his pronunciation was stilted. I learned this only when I tried to speak French with the natives. Therefore, if I decide to learn Spanish, I will surely check these programs. Thanks for the review.

I might just try some of them in the future. Who knows?

They’re wonderful options for learning languages. Speaking one-on-one appears to be one of the most effective methods of language learning. It’s because you have someone to talk to. A person who can guide you and knows the rich underlying subtext in their language.

I know some people who can’t speak their language despite having a parent who’s fluent in their native tongue. The most common reason is growing up in a different country and not getting to experience the culture that accompanies it.

I hope more people aspire to get in touch with their roots as learning language is a fulfilling experience. You gradually see the world in all its vibrant colors.

That’s beautifully said, “You gradually see the world in all its vibrant colors.” It’s completely true. Being able to speak several languages opens new doors and opportunities in life. It also helps to see many things from a new light and see “below the surface”.

I’m glad that the Internet has enabled us to learn languages more easily than ever before in the history. For example, the resources that I mention in the article didn’t exist in the past without the Internet.

Thank you. It happens when you’re passionate about what you’re sharing. Your words are inspiring as well. Keep up the great work!

I feel like all of us are missing out on something big. Have you ever felt sad whenever you can’t relate to people solely because they speak a language you can’t understand?

        It’s a sad experience.

The biggest motivator for us to learn new things is the hope of building bridges. Nothing compares to the ability to connect with people. Language is at the forefront of human interaction.

Without it, we’d be hard pressed to even understand each other. It’s like the familiar saying that goes something like: “You don’t know what you’re missing out on until you’ve had it and wondered why it took you so long to experience it.”

This is very informative, the good thing is the cost is not much higher and you’ll be given a cash back if you think they wasted your time. If I’ll selecting one of these options, I’ll go for the $1 session with Baselang.

Wow, @chris sign language. That never crossed my mind at all to try learning it. Maybe it’s probably that I see it as disabled people means of communication and I doubt I have anyone to communicate with it, which makes it rank low on my priority list. But it’s nice to master such craft. Just as @Roope asked, is there any online website for learning such? Roope might be able to bring it down for us all here with his article on it.

I can speak some of Spanish because my country is colonized by the Spanish way back I think a hundred years before. Some of our cultures are brought us by the Spanish until now we have Spanish culture and we still use Spanish words. We are blessed to be a multi lingual based country, but the authority of education here in my country don’t like it so they want us to use our own language no other than.

We all know that Spaniards is one of the first who tried to colonize the world so it means there is some Spanish culture that spread in the world. And one of the countries that uses of the spanish language is my country, Spanish is not too hard to learn. Honestly before I thought the words that we use is pure Tagalog but actually its not here in my country we uses words from the Spanish we used to it. words like “Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro, etc.” That is just means One, Two, three and 4.

I just want to say that I am willing to share some more Spanish words to all of you.

@Dictator20 It’s true when one’s country is colonized by a country with another language, there is a huge possibility of such countries absorbing that language as part of their communication medium. Just like Nigeria which has several tribes and ethnic groups with different languages, but with the colonization by the British government, now it’s English for everyone. If it had been Portugal that colonized us, it would definitely be their Portuguese language we would absorb as well.

If you say that’s the best and number one recommendation you are making for anyone eager to learn Spanish language, then there is nothing more to argue about because from the reviews which you have done on several language learning platforms, you have always put the interest of your readers first before your own.

Although some of other language learning platforms are cool but it’s a shame they are yet to look at the concept of Baselang, and pick one or two things to make their’s better.
